Alcyon Chamber Ensemble – 5th Anniversary Season

The Alcyon Chamber Ensemble’s fifth anniversary season includes two programs curated by hornist and composer Michael Weinstein, featuring two new, commissioned works. After kicking off with Schubert’s glorious Octet, Alcyon moves on to Music of the Last Quarter Century, with concerts in October and May. In between, Leslie Amper will give another of her fascinating solo recitals in January at Parish of the Epiphany in Winchester, MA. Alcyon will present an extraordinary children’s concert in February with guest artist Zhantao Lin playing the erhu, and members of ACE. Following this concert, children will have a chance to try out small instruments, courtesy of Johnson String Instrument of Newton, MA.

In conjunction with its 5th anniversary season, Alcyon is also announcing the its initial offering of the ACE Composition Contest. Aspiring young composers ages 25 and under will have an opportunity to submit their work for review and the winner’s entry will be performed and recorded by the Alcyon Chamber Ensemble during the 2011-12 season.
