About the Alcyon Chamber Ensemble

The Alcyon Chamber Ensemble was formed in 2006 by cellist Shannon Snapp to celebrate the 250th birth of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart with Winchester public school students and residents of the community.  The residency involved performing for 350 second graders over three days, and culminated with a community concert featuring two of Mozart’s most celebrated chamber works, the Quintet for Horn and Strings in E-flat, K. 407, and Trio for Clarinet, Viola, and Piano in E-flat, K. 498 “Kegelstatt”.   Since then, Alcyon has conducted residencies in Gloucester, Rockport, Reading, Lowell, Westford, Perkins School for the Blind, Boston Arts Academy, and Milton Academy.

Alcyon’s  2013-14 season is co-produced by Westford’s Parish Center for the Arts and will feature concerts by Alcyon Chamber Ensemble,  Berklee Chamber Players,  and ACMC’s Young Artists’ Chamber Ensembles.

Alcyon Chamber Ensemble, Inc. derives its name from the mythical golden bird that calms troubled waters.

ACMI begins its second term on Feb. 4th

Alcyon Chamber Music Institute begins its second term this coming week beginning Feb. 4th with chamber music coaching sessions available on Monday and Friday afternoons and Thursday afternoons and evenings. Chamber music fills that wonderful space between one-on-one private lessons and the orchestral excitement of playing with others and being part of a larger whole. Chamber music sharpens our ears and senses to being independent with our individual parts while fitting in with others. Chamber music engages the whole person musically, intellectually and socially. We will create performing opportunities this Spring in and around Westford in libraries, nursing homes and pre-schools.

Next season’s 4-concert series (2013-14) by Alcyon Chamber Ensemble at the Parish Center for the Arts will highlight student performances. Chamber music instructors are Alcyon chamber musicians violinist Shufang Du and cellist Shannon Snapp, who are also available for private lessons

Are you an intermediate or advanced middle or high school violinist, violist or cellist? ACMI has an immediate placement for you. Sign up today. Are you a beginning string player? Gather up one, two or three of your string playing buddies and sign up for chamber music coaching. Watch your musical skills grow while having fun with your friends.
Fee: $350 for NYO members/$395 for non-members (includes14 one-hour coaching sessions, two master classes and one end-of-semester recital)
For more information or to sign up for an audition, call 781.721.7725 or contact Shannon at  <>.
